Marshall's Memorial City Hall announces new season of shows (2024)

The Memorial City Hall historical performance center in downtown Marshall has announced it’s 2024-25 season.

Director Glen Barnhart said the venue is presenting a star-studded season with country-music legends, comedy, Motown and soul, classic rock-n-roll and a spectacular Christmas show.

Community members can register for season tickets now, with the deadline to register for season tickets July 22. The benefits of becoming a season ticket holder include discount pricing, guaranteed same seats for the shows and first dibs on getting tickets to special and exclusive events as well as, advertising in our show program and invitations to the post-show receptions with the artists.

A registration form can found at www.memorialcityhall.com, or community members can call Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (903) 934-7992.

All shows at Memorial City Hall are presented in association with the 92.3 The Depot, KTAL, The Marshall News Messenger, and 103.9 KMHT with a special thanks to the Texas Commission on the Arts for their support.

Single tickets for all shows will go on sale Monday, Aug. 5.

An Evening with Georgette Jones

On Sept. 14, “An Evening with Georgette Jones” with “Songs & Stories from the only daughter of George Jones & Tammy Wynette.”

Jones has been singing on stage since she was 3 years old, recorded two duets with her father, toured across the U.S., Canada and overseas, and performed at the Opry and the Ryman.

Uptown

Uptown takes the stage on Oct. 19, fusing Bruno-Mars-caliber stage presence with top-tier vocals and wall-to-wall choreography, the show combines the smooth stylings of R&B, Motown and the fresh hits of today in a unique and modern show that gets every crowd on their feet.

Born in New York City, the group exudes unparalleled energy with their blend of contemporary radio hits and classic Motown music. Every single member of Uptown is a world-class soloist, with frequent comparisons to the artistry of icons like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye; when they come together as one collective, the resulting remix creates “the most electrifying show you’ll see this decade!”

A special event on Nov. 2 features Deana Carter, the award-winning, platinum-selling, country music superstar with the No. single, “Strawberry Wine,” celebrating the 25th anniversary of her groundbreaking album “Did I Shave My Legs for This?” Her very first single off her very first album went on to be named the Country Music Association’s Single of the Year and Song of the Year in 1997, as well as nominated for a GRAMMY and an Academy of Country Music award.

Dallas String Quartet

Back by popular demand, The Dallas String Quartet “Where Bach meets Bon Jovi” will be performing on Friday, Dec. 6. The international music sensation referred to as “Bach meets Bon Jovi” and compared to artists like Lindsey Stirling, Vitamin String Quartet, Brooklyn Duo and 2Cellos.

They use both traditional and electric strings performing as a quartet with the full accompaniment of drums and guitar and are known for their eclectic renditions of everything from Guns N’ Roses “Sweet Child O’ Mine” to Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” to their collaboration “You Are The Reason,” with The Piano Guys.

DSQ has performed for Presidents Obama and Bush, with superstars like Ed Sheeran, Luke Combs and Ashley McBryde, and at the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM Awards). VeraBank & McKool Smith proudly sponsors this show.

On Jan. 18, The Music of Sam Cooke starring Bradd Marquis takes the stage in this fantastic new show depicting the life and music of one of America’s most iconic and talented performers, the legendary Sam Cooke.

This is a rip-roaring soulful performance brought to you alongside a live big band to pay tribute to Sam Cooke, the inventor of soul music and the most popular and beloved performer of his time. Commonly known as The King of Soul for his distinctive vocal abilities, Cooke melded elements of R&B, gospel and pop into a sound that was new and still coalescing at the time.

This world premiere concert features the greatest hits from the Legend of Soul including “You Send Me,” “Only Sixteen,” “Cupid,” “Chain Gang,” “Twistin the Night Away,” “A Change is Gonna Come” and “Wonderful World” to name a few. Beginning with the gospel music that formed the foundation of Sam Cooke’s career, and spanning his success as a pop star, its pure magic from beginning to end, this show proudly brought to you by the Marshall Regional Arts Council.

Shenandoah

An exclusive event on Jan. 25 features country-music legends Shenandoah. When country music lovers talk about the greatest groups in the genre, Shenandoah is always at the forefront of any discussion.

Fueled by Marty Raybon’s distinctive vocals and the band’s skilled musicianship, Shenandoah became well known for delivering such hits as “Two Dozen Roses,” “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Next to You, Next to Me” as well as such achingly beautiful classics as “I Want to be Loved Like That” and “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart,” a beautiful duet with Alison Krauss that won a Country Music Association Award for Vocal Event of the year and a Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

My Funny Valentine

Comedy ensues on Feb. 15 with My Funny Valentine with Pat Hazell and Amy Barnes. Join comedians Pat Hazell, one of the original writers for NBC’s Seinfeld and a veteran of The Tonight Show, and Amy Barnes, featured on Comedy Central and National Lampoon, as they join forces for an evening of hilarious and heartwarming stand-up comedy. This is funded in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts.

An Evening in the Round with Linda Davis

An Evening in the Round with Linda Davis comes to town on March 8. Labeled a ‘song stylist,’ Davis’ unique ability to interpret a song has made her one of Nashville’s favorite vocalists. The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame member has played to sold-out crowds with the likes of Garth Brooks, George Strait, Reba McEntire and Kenny Rogers just to name a few.

Together with hit songwriters Bill Whyte and Lang Scott, the three-time Grammy winner Linda Davis performs an intimate, acoustic show playing songs and sharing the stories with humor and down home appeal. Sponsored by Texas Bank and Trust.

Already Gone

MCH welcomes Already Gone on April 5. The premier Eagles tribute band, these five veteran musicians reproduce the Eagles lush vocal harmonies so accurately that it’s uncanny. They don’t dress like the Eagles, speak like them, or act like them — rather, they give tribute to one of the greatest classic rock acts in history by their painstaking attention to the musical details.
